Flying with Edge
Airline power bank rules changed in 2026. Here's what they mean for Edge, so you can get through security and land with a full battery.
Can I take Edge on a plane?
Yes, in your hand luggage. Edge is rated 77Wh, comfortably under the 100Wh limit, so you don't need your airline's permission to carry it. The rating is on Edge's label, so security can check it at a glance.
Can Edge go in my checked luggage?
No. Power banks must always travel in the cabin, never in the hold. If your cabin bag gets taken at the gate, take Edge out first.
How many power banks can I take?
Since 27 March 2026, international rules allow a maximum of two per passenger. Some airlines are stricter (Emirates allows only one), so check before you fly.
Can I use Edge during the flight?
It depends on the airline. A growing number, including easyJet and the Lufthansa Group, don't allow power banks to charge devices onboard. Our advice: charge your laptop and phone from Edge at the gate or in the lounge, and land with everything full.
Can I recharge Edge on the plane?
No. Recharging a power bank from the seat socket or USB port isn't allowed during flights.
Where should Edge go once I'm on board?
Keep it with you. Some airlines now require power banks to stay in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat in front, not in the overhead locker. Edge lives in your laptop sleeve, so just stow that bag under the seat.
Why does the label say 5,000mAh?
Airlines go by watt-hours, not mAh. Edge's label shows 5,000mAh at 15.4V, which is 77Wh. Measured the way most power banks are, at 3.7V, that's around 20,000mAh.
Is Edge safety certified for travel?
Yes. Edge is UN38.3 certified, the international transport safety test for lithium batteries, as well as CE and UKCA certified.
How do I recharge Edge while I'm away?
Use any USB-C charger. Edge takes up to 45W, so your laptop charger is ideal, and a full recharge takes 2 to 3 hours. Plug it in overnight at the hotel and it's ready for the next day. Abroad, you only need a plug adapter for the charger.
How much laptop charge will I get?
Around one full charge for a laptop with a 50 to 55Wh battery, such as a MacBook Air, and a solid top-up for larger machines. Edge delivers up to 65W from a single USB-C port.
